The Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Lagos State Area Unit has conducted a series of medical tests for the community dwellers of Epe area of the state.

 

The event which was held at An-Warul-Islam Central Mosque, Epe featured such free medical tests as HIV, blood sugar, Hepatitis, high blood pressure and urinalisis.

 

The tests were administered by the medical personnel of the clinic department as part of programmes marking the formal closing of yhe just-concluded 104th annual Islamic Vacation Course (IVC) organised by the Unit at its Human Capital Development Center, Noforija, Epe.

 

The medical team also  distributed  free drugs to beneficiaries.

About 200 residents of the  community, who benefited from the programme expressed their joy at the initiative of the Muslim students.

The beneficiaries were also availed hours of consultation for them to interact wth the medical experts with a view to helping them ascertain their health status.

The Chief Medical Director of the Clinic department, Dr. Abdul wahab Egberongbe in an interview with The Nation said the medical outreach was intended to make Epe feel the presence of the MSSN Lagos and its members in the community.

He noted that objectives of the outreach were to help the community dwellers medically, educate them about their health status and avail them the opportunity to interact with medical experts on their health issues.

While describing the turn out of the beneficiaries as encouraging, he advised muslims to take optimum care of the their health and never assume for themselves on issues of their health.

A male beneficiary, Mr. Eletu Lawal Olabode expressed pleasure at the gesture saying the initiative met his expectations.

After his tests, Olabode explained that, “I came down for essentially to ascertain some few things about my health and I wasn’t disappointed. They took sample of my blood and urine while they did check my blood pressure. At the end of it all I was told everything is fine with me.

John Andrew, an interior designer described the medical outreach as a good development capable of fostering unity among various religious and ethnic dwellers in the community.

“Programme like this brings unity among us and in unity there is God.This is wisdom enough and God being in wisdom Himself will dwell among us. My message to every other person is to emulate good things. Good thing is unquestionable while wrong thing is questionable,” he said.

A mother of three, Mrs Praise Olusanya, who had series of tests alongside her husband and children said she was happy to have participated in the tests.

She added that her family members had a fruitful interactions with the medical consultants on issues bothering on their family health.

Meanwhile, the Amir (President) of MSSN Lagos, Dr. Saheed Ashafa has said the society would continue to explore all avenues at bringing on more programmes to improve  community health for the people of Epe.
