The Young Leadership Forum (YLF) on Saturday inducted new members and promoted existing ones amidst emotion and passion to succeed.
The audience emotions rose when they were told outstanding success stories of young Muslim teenagers.
Speaking at the occasion, the Amir of MSSN, Agege Area Council, Mr. Musa Al- Ameen, narrated the success stories of Muslim teenagers who made best results and won scholarships all over the world.
He said, “When you get to the top, you will see Muslims everywhere. For instance, MSSN has produced a lot of best students schooling on scholarship in UNILAG, OAU and even abroad. A product of MSSN won Pastor Enoch Adebayo’s scholarship award. He was asked of his name and he was told he can’t be a Muslim because he is a genius. He had to go and inform Daddy GO when it was time for Salah that he was going to pray.
“At Greater Height school, the principal asked ‘Waidi’ to be called ‘Honourable’ because he was the best student in his school and in Lagos State Competitions. Young Muslim student, Asiyah AbdulKareem, can stand up to talk to anybody. The Amirah of Oyewole High School, Agege is the only hijab wearing student that got promotion to SSS3. Meanwhile, she was slapped severally to remove her hijab but did not. She is the Amirah of the school.
“At age 16, most MSSN members gain admission. They write GCE at SSS2 simultaneously with their school’s exam. We realised that most of the products of MSSN are leaders all over the places they find themselves – due to their outstanding performances. In fact, they emerge as overall best students and get automatic employment and scholarships home and abroad.”
He counselled the students to ensure that they have a mentor, saying, “A Muslim student should move with those who know and know that they know. Know what you don’t know and make effort to know. Behind every achiever, there is a mentor guaranteeing him/ her of progress.
“You don’t just pray for success rather you work for it. Muslims are successful because Allah has called them successful. A mentor tells you, when to stop and when to continue.”
During the programme, the students were awarded. One of them, AbdulAzeez got a special award for being punctual despite relocating to a far location.
The lecturer also gave monetary prize to the student who got the interpretation of the idiomatic expression ‘the boy is the father of the man’.
The two overall best students were also awarded.
When asked where he would love to be in 10 years, Abdulganiu Abdussalam, an SSS three student from Bright Future Academy said he saw himself in the biggest telecommunication company in Nigeria as a telecom engineer.”
The existing members of the YLF were promoted to Young Leadership School (YLS) getting above 50 per cent in a test conducted for them.
The inauguration and induction held at Jubril Alade Yusuf Central Mosque Hall, Alagbado, Lagos.
YLF is a one year youth mentoring programme of Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria.
According to the coordinator of the programme, Mr. Abdul Fatah Adelopo ( the CEO of Al- Mumin Schools, Alakuko, Lagos), the programme has produced many outstanding youths.
He made it known that YLF takes four core courses: Islamic Religious Studies (IRS); General Studies (GNS); Leadership Training Programme (LTP) and Book Review (BRV).
He said the outgoing set, who are mainly secondary school students, went on excursion few weeks ago to the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
Coordinator of the forum, Mallam Sherifdeen Kukoyi, expressed satisfaction with the performance of the students.
