I join other well-meaning Nigerians to congratulate our President on his unprecedented budget presentation yesterday, 7th November, 2017 at the joint session of the National Assembly. This is history making in the annals of our democratic experience.
This move by the presidency is to enable the early passage of the budget by the National Assembly and a promise fulfilled by Buhari. This will kick-start activities of government early enough in 2018, thereby bringing the necessary impact in the economy.
Recall that 2017 budget was presented to the National Assembly on 14th December, 2016 but it took the National assembly till May, 2017 to pass it.
There are many lessons therein for us to learn as Muslim youths, most especially as student workers on our attitude to work on the path of Allah.
My humble suggestions are listed:
1. There is need for us to look inwards, search our souls and renew our commitment and sacrifice to work.
2. We should readily see and view Allah’s work and religious assignments entrusted in us as our primary responsibility. This is the first to be asked from us on the day of judgment.
3. We should shun the “Civil Service or National Assembly” approach to work where they only work at their pace with delays without recourse to being called to question.
Allah will not give us assignments beyond what we can handle and the solution to it is within us if only we look well.
I will leave us with some example of personalities that came to mind as I write this.
A. Prof Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB Registrar and Secretary General, Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs. Barely a year on assuming office as JAMB Registrar, he turned over a whooping 5 Billion Naira as profit to the FG. Those that don’t know him would wonder at this achievement in the short time but this is not strange to those that knew him and familiar to his massive achievements as VC in UNILORIN.
2. Prophet Daud. As a young boy, he was the only person alive that could dare the giant Jalut in the battle field. He killed Jalut in a single swing of his catapult with Allah’s will. Everyone marvelled at his great bravery and boldness, not fearing death but could come out to fight. Little do they know that before this he had killed a lion and bears that usually attacked his father’s sheep.
What I want to bring out from this two examples above is that the road we thread, every assignment and challenges we face in live are trainings building us for the future. Let’s see every assignment, post and responsibilities given to us in working for Allah as preparing us for a greater assignment in the future. It will tell on us if we are not adequately prepared.
As Muslim youths we need to position ourselves for the future because what the future holds will be determined by us.
This is a general call to action to everyone of us, including myself. May Allah assist us as we resolve to assist His work. Aamin
I also use this medium to appreciate those that are always rendering their unflinching effort and support to the work. Please don’t deter, don’t relent and don’t be discouraged. Allah sees you and we also know and see. He will definitely give us our reward in full when we all return to Him.
May Allah accepts all our efforts.
