History was made today, Friday April 13, 2018 as Mgboko Mmesoma Somto emerged as the best graduating student from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lagos.

The faculty which is domiciled at the College of Medicine, Idi-araba Lagos graduated a total of 137 pharmacist.

Somto finished with a cumulative grade index of 4.94.

When iWitness sought the advice of the Dean, Prof (Mrs) Bolajoko A. Aina, for the 2016/2017 graduating class, she said, “They should be humble, diligent and hardworking.”

The B.pharm degree is declassified in most schools, but graduating students are still distinguished into pass with distinction and pass.

20 distinction students emerged from the class of 2016/2017.

Incidentally, most of the graduating pharmacist will be writing an entry exam for internship placement into the Lagos University Teaching Hospital today.

iWitness confirmed that the total number of pharmacists that will be employed is usually not more than 50.

The Hospital receives application from all over the country. Each candidate is expected to apply with their Pharmacist Council of Nigeria oath form, however pharmacist who graduated from UNILAG can apply without the oath form. They only need to be a final year student.

Although, the pharmacy profession is quite lucrative, Pharmacist and other medical graduates are currently struggling for internship placement all over the country.

The Federal government should centralise the internship placement and reduce the burden on the new graduates.
