‎In recognition of his immense contributions to the propagation of Islam in the media, the Public Relations Officer of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Lagos State Area Unit (MSSN Lagos), Mallam Idris Kasumu, has been honored by Al-Mutawakkil Academy, Lagos.

Idris, who is a journalist, was given the recognition medal at the 10th year anniversary/Award presentation of the Islamic society, which took place at the National Art Theatre, Lagos on Sunday, December 18, 2016.

The event which was graced by eminent personalties within and outside the Islamic fold had in attendance, Sheikh AbdulRahman Ahmad, Alhaji Yakubu Muhammed, a renowned journalist and philanthropist who is the founding member of NewsWatch Newspaper, Brigadier-General Abubakar Sadiq Ndalolo, Alhaja Fatimah Oyekan who is the CEO, Crescent Schools, 1004 V/Island, Lagos amongst others.

In his reaction to IWITNESS NG correspondent, Idris who is also the General Secretary of L.C.H.Estate Muslim Community, Ejigbo, Lagos expressed his joy to the recognition.

He said, “It’s a great thing to be honored among eminent personalties seated here today. Being recognised among the people who are role models to me while growing up is part of a career fulfillment.

“I became a journalist by circumstance, although that’s a story for another another day but my determination as a Muslim journalist is to see that Muslims no longer misrepresent Islam in the public. What do I mean by this, most of our Islamic organizations in Nigeria are like 20 years behind in terms of Public Relations, it’s either it is not well managed or not even managed at all and this is where my thrust for the propagation of Islam evolved from.

“Sincerely speaking it’s not being easy being a muslim at the same time an active media practitioner but when you put Allah first in all your doings, your dealings will come with ease.”

He continued, “I also want to thank my colleagues who have made this possible because without them honoring those invitations which sometimes even get to them late, this feat wouldn’t have been achieved. As the theme of the program reads; we are representatives of Allah and we must all hearken to his call.”
