The Badagry Local Government Chairman,   Mr Olusegun  Onilude, has urged the people of Badagry and Nigerians in general  to embrace the spirit of sacrifice as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim in his days.

Onilude gave the advice shortly after observing  the Eld-el-Kabir prayer at the Central Muslim Praying Ground in Badagry, Lagos State on Sunday.

The chairman urged Muslims to be the reflection through which others  would see Islam and its faith.

God commanded Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his only son to him. Ibrahim submitted to God’ order and an angel of God provided a ram in replacement as a sacrifice offering instead of Ibrahim’s son.

Onilude said, “Today, I join all Muslim faithful across the world as we celebrate the selfless act of Prophet Ibrahim to embrace the spirit of obedience and sacrifice as practised by Prophet Ibrahim.

“This day comes with a great experience and knowledge for us all; to believe, to have faith in Allah and to be patient regardless of our challenges,” he said.

Onilude urged the people of Badagry to disregard issues that  could threaten the collective unity of the country.

He said that his government would continue to channel all public resources in the best way possible for the development of the citizenry.

Onilude also wished the people of Badagry a memorable celebration.

Also, the Chief Imam of Badagry Central Mosque, Alhaji Abdul-Akeem Arikeusola,  in his sermon said  the ‘Sallah’ period should be used to renew the spirit of compassion and sacrifice in the service of the society.

“This is a season that symbolises sacrifice and faith in divine will, this is because all our success are out of the commitment to the will of Allah.

“It is by Allah’s grace that we are where we are today, I greet our people on this day and urge all of us to imbibe the spirit of sacrifice in our daily lives.

“Let us imbibe the lesson of always  submitting  to the will of Allah as done by Prophet Abraham ( Ibrahim),” he said.
