Being careless with prayer

Have you for once reflected on why Allah curses (some) people who also perform Salah (prayer) in Surah Al-Ma’un? Allah says (in Surah Al-Ma’un [107] verse 4-5): “So woe unto those performers of Salat (prayers) (hypocrites). Who delay their Salat (prayer) from their stated fixed times.” Surely, one needs to ponder on the Message of Allah so as not to fall into errors. The Prophet (SallaLlahu ‘Alayhi wa Sallam) while answering the one who asked him which deed is the most beloved to Allah said (as recorded in Sahih Al-Bukhari wa Muslim): *“Prayer done on time.”* Some people do pray but it’s completely outside its time. They give flimsy excuses such as been busy from morning till night and thus combine Dhuhr, ‘Asr, Maghrib and Isha’i together. However, it was narrated by Ibn ‘Umar (RadiyaLlahu ‘Anhu) that the Prophet (SallaLlahu ‘Alayhi wa Sallam) said (as recorded in Sahih Al-Bukhari): *“Whoever misses the ‘Asr prayer (intentionally), then it is as if he lost his family and property.”*

If Allah could curse those who don’t pray at the right time, think about what will happen to those who don’t pray at all. Evidently, intentionally abandoning prayer is disbelief in line with the Hadith of the Prophet (SallaLlahu ‘Alayhi wa Sallam) (as recorded in Musnad Ahmad) that: *“The covenant (which distinguished) between us and them is prayer, so whoever gives up prayer becomes a Kaafir (disbeliever).”* In another narration, he (SallaLlahu ‘Alayhi wa Sallam) informed (as recorded in Sahih Muslim): *“Between a man and Shirk (associating others with Allah) and Kufr (disbelief) stands his giving up prayer.”* If you truly have ‘Eeman, you shouldn’t be careless with your prayers (by neglecting it). In fact, you would never feel at ease unless you perform it. I beseech Allah to strengthen us upon Khayr. (Aameen)
