The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Lagos State Area Unit has congratulated the new Chief Imam of Lagos, Alhaji Sulaimon Oluwatoyin Abu, over his emergence.

Amir (President) of the MSSN Lagos, Dr. Saheed Ashafa, in a congratulatory message on Friday urged the new Chief Imam to ensure the protection of the rights of Muslims in Lagos State.

Ashafa, who said Muslim students in Lagos State have confidence in the new Chief Imam, assured Oluwatoyin of the students’ support.

Ashafa said, “We accept the choice of Alhaji Oluwatoyin as the new Chief Imam. Our prayer is that he will surpass his predecessor’s success. However, we urge him to continuously  protect the interest of Muslims in the state at all times.

“Our hope is that his emergence will end the era of oppression of Muslims in Lagos State and South West. He should be courageous and bold to speak the truth to those in power. We pray that his emergence will improve the unity among Muslims in the State.

“We plead with other Muslims in the state to cooperate with the new Chief Imam and join his train of positive changes. We pray that the emergence of the new Chief Imam will be a blessing to the Muslim Ummah. We also beseech Allah to guide and grant the new Chief Imam the zeal, long life and all that is needed to be successful in his position.”

The new Chief Imam was turbaned on Friday afternoon shortly before the Juma’at prayer.

He emerged as the 10th Chief Imam of Lagos after a rigorous selection process and replaced Alhaji Garuba Akinola Ibrahim, who died on September 24.

He was turbaned by the mosque’s Head of Missioners, Sheikh Tijani Gbajabiamila and another Imam, Mujitaba Giwa.

He is a practising Electrical Engineer and well learned in matters of Islam and a graduate of the Daru-Da’wa wal Irshad, Arabic and Islamic College, Isolo, Lagos, Nigeria.
