DON’T MISS THI: Trump’s visit to Saudi Arabia

by Rasheed Abubakar and Nojeem Jimoh

In case you forgot, let me remind you of what President Trump said in October 2016 about Islam and Muslims at a town hall meeting in New Hampshire, during his election campaign.

Trump, who was then a Republican presidential hopeful failed to correct a man (one of his supporters) who said Obama is a Muslim and not the US president.

The man said: “We have a problem in this country and it’s called Muslims. We know our current president is a Muslim. He’s not even an American. They have training camps. They wanna kill us. When do we get rid of them?”

Instead of correcting the man, Trump said that he’ll look into getting rid of Islam when elected president.

This is to tell you that islamophobia and anti-islamic sentiment is real in the US. Like his predecessors in the Republican party, Donald Trump did not hide his hatred for Islam and the Muslims. Hear him again: “We will look into getting rid of all the Muslims when Elected President.”

Shortly after assuming office in January 2017, President Trump issued an Executive Order  banning seven Muslim-majority countries from entering United States. Interestingly, the ban didn’t affect some Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, where he has business interests.

The gist now is that Mr Trump is in Saudi Arabia, the home of Islam for his first foreign trip and both countries have just signed a major weapons deal worth $100b meant to kill real terrorists and innocent Muslims all in the name of war against radical Islamists.

It would be recalled that the US-backed, Saudi-led war in Yemen has led to the death of over 10, 000 civilians, including more than 1,400 innocent children. No fewer than 55,000 children and 470,000 civilians have also lost their lives in the Saudi-Iran proxy war in Syria.

During his 2-day visit, “Mufti” Trump will be discussing  Islam and the battle against terrorism with leaders of Muslim countries.

Did I hear you say he wants to talk about Islam? Yes, of course! In fact, his historic Islam speech to be delivered tomorrow (Sunday) was drafted by Stephen Miller, the same man that drafted his controversial Muslims ban speech.

Reacting to the news of Trump visit to Saudi Arabia, Ustadh Nojeem Jimoh wrote:
“How ironic! The one who hates Muslims so much and makes a public show of it. The president who (if he had his way) would rather allow no Muslims to enter his country will this morning embark on his first foreign trip as president. Guess where he goes first: Saudi Arabia. The headquarters of Islam. Is this irony lost on him? I hope he is reminded.”
All eyes will be on Trump, the same way all eyes were Obama eight years ago in Egypt where he promised the Muslim world A New Beginning which later turned out to be the greatest disasters to the Muslim world, with among others, Afghanistan killings, Egypt coup, Palestine tragedy and Syrian wars as sore gifts!
