The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has urged Abuja residents to use the period of Sallah celebration to pray for enhanced peace, progress and development in the country.
The FCT Permanent Secretary, Mr Chinyeaka Ohaa, made the appeal while presenting food items to 14 associations of the less privileged for Sallah celebration, on Friday in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the food items are bags of rice, ram, cows and beverages.
Ohaa, who said that the gesture was part of the tradition of the FCTA, restated the commitment of the administration to enhance the welfare of the poor and vulnerable in the territory.
“We believe that the Almighty Allah will be with you as you celebrate the 2019 Eid-el-Kabir.
“I urge you to pray for Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory and also to be part of the struggle to ensure sustainable peace and tranquility in the country,” he said.
Ohaa further urged the residents to shun any act or behaviour that would put them into trouble or disrubt peaceful co-existence in the FCT.
He said that FCTA had made all adequate security arrangements to ensure a hitch-free sallah celebration in the territory.
At the occasion, a former Senator, Binta Garba, emphasised the need for all Nigerians to intensify prayer for sustainable peace and development in the country.
She commended the FCTA for distributing food to the less privileged in the territory, describing it as a worthy gesture.
