The Police in Niger say they are fully ready to provide adequate security before, during and after the forthcoming Eid-el-kabir celebrations in the state.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Alhaji Adamu Usman, made this known in Minna on Wednesday.
Usman said that an effective operational order on how to provide security at each of the praying grounds across the state had since been issued to Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers for implementation.
The commissioner also said that the command had already embarked on “Operation Show Force’’ with other security agencies to show their preparedness.
He explained that the measures were aimed at enabling residents of the state to observe the festivities without any threat to lives and property.
“We will be deploying adequate number of personnel to places of worship, markets, recreational areas and highways for hitch-free Sallah celebrations.
“Personnel from the anti-bomb units will be deployed to prayer grounds and recreation centres to screen people going into such places.
“Surveillance patrol teams will equally be deployed to places of human gathering to monitor activities of criminal elements who may want to disturb the peace of the state or use the occasion to commit crimes.
“The Command’s Anti-Terrorism Units are placed on red alert to tackle any act of terrorism that may rear its ugly face anytime, anywhere.
“Traffic personnel are well positioned to control and regulate free flow of traffic in all the praying grounds,’’ he said.
Usman called on Muslim Ummah to continue in the spirit of love, sacrifice and peaceful coexistence to pray that Allah in His infinite mercy will accept our supplications for peace, progress and political stability in the country.
He also called on residents to be conscious of their environment and remain vigilant at all times.
“It is our civic duty to report any suspicious movements of persons to the police for necessary action,” he said.
The commissioner appealed to parents and guardians to monitor the activities of their children and wards during and after the festivities.
He warned that the command would deal ruthlessly with criminal elements in the state in accordance with the law.
