While the brouhaha surrounding the declaration of Mr. Fayose to demolish ALL Mosques that are constructed in petrol stations is being doused sequel to the intervention of the President General, League of Imams and Alfas, His Emince, Alh. Sheikh Jamiu Kewulere Bello who has ordered the suspension of the Jumat service of 7/4/17 at the Adebayo Mosque of Akinbami petrol station; fresh facts have emerged that Ekiti State Government is presently constructing a fuel station/Dump directly at the back of the Government House Mosque.
The National Council for Muslim Youths Organisation (NACOMYO) has accused the Ekiti State Government of double standard in
a press statement.
As a responsible organization that does not
propagate rumors or hear say, NACOMYO has visited the construction site of the State Government’s fuel dump/station that is taking place at the back of the Government House Mosque. From our findings, we discovered that the location of fuel station being built by the Government is closer to the Government House Mosque than the location of the Mosques in the private-owned petrol stations.
As much as possible, we could not understand the rationale behind the decision of the State Government, who claimed that the proximity of petrol stations to place of worship is injurious and dangerous to worshippers, to build a fuel dump/station directly behind a Government House Mosque where hundreds of worshippers converge on daily basis.
This chameleonic posture of the Government of Ekiti State is unfortunate. We see it as an act of double standard. It is purely nothing but blowing hot and cold at the same time. The action of the Government in this regard amount to adopting different yard sticks in the implementation of her policies. This is not only hypocritical on the part of the State Government; It is also inhumane and a clear cut abuse of power which is nothing but corruption. The disposition of the State Government in this regard is a violent violation of Sections 15(5) and 17(2) (c) of the 1999 constitution of Nigeria (as amended).
NACOMYO Ekiti State hereby condemn the Government of Ekiti State in this regard and submit that the circular issued by the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development dated 4th April 2017 with Ref. No. EKURP/47/BE and titled “Removal of Place of Worship Located within Petrol Filling Station” was targeted at Victmising the Muslims of EKiti State. It is a calculated attempt at suffocating the religion of Islam as much as possible. NACOMYO therefore views this attempt at provoking the Muslims of the state as unnecessary and a call for chaos and commotion.
As a peace loving organization we hereby call on the Government Of Ekiti state to rescind her decision concerning the mosque demolition with immediate effect. This is the only panacea to peace and tranquility.
