Emir tasks stakeholders on commitment to drug abuse control in Kwara

Alhaji Ibrahim Zulu-Gambari, Emir of Ilorin  has urged key stakeholders in Kwara to be proactive in the control of drug abuse in the state.

The Emir made the call on Saturday while receiving the Coordinator, representing National Drug Control Master Plan, Mrs Ngozi Oguejifor and members of the Kwara State Drug Abuse Control Committee in his palace.

Gambari appealed to the drug abuse control committee in Kwara to step up sensitisation and awareness campaign on drug abuse programmes and ensure that people of the state were fully aware of the consequences of drug abuse, particularly those at the grassroots .
The traditional ruler, while commending the team from the National Drug Control Master Plan, urged them to always carry Kwara along in their activities.
He also urged members of the Drug Abuse Control Committee in Kwara to be consistence in their activities, and to also have very good master plan in fight against drug abuse.
Speaking at the meeting, the Coordinator of the team representing the National Drug Control Master Plan, Mrs Oguejifor thanked the Emir for playing a fatherly role in the fight against drug abuse in the state.
She said the issue of drug abuse must not be handled with levity in the state, considering the fact that drug abuse is a major problem in society.
Oguejiofor advised parents to always keep a watch on their children, especially female children in order to deter them from getting involved in drug abuse.
Mr Friday Oluwi , a representative of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), assured the monarch that all  recommendations given by the national coordinator would be put into consideration.
Oluwi said the committee in the state had been able to control drug abuse to some appreciable level despite inadequate funding.
He pledged that the drug abuse control committee would continue to do its best in Kwara  to further reduce drug abuse among the people.
