Fika Town appeals for fund to complete 800-year-old Central Mosque

The Fika Town Committee for the renovation and reconstruction of of the 800-year-old Central Mosque in Township of Fika headquarters of Fika Local Government Area of Yobe State on Sunday appealed to the state government, Non-Governmental Organizations and other well meaning individuals to assist with fund and building materials to enable it complete the multi-million naira project embarked upon.

The Chairman of the Fika Town Central Mosque Renovation and Construction, Alhaji Muhammad Nata’ala (Tinja Fuya of Fika), made the appeal during on Sunday shortly after the Committee meeting in Fika Town.

Nata’ala said: “The indigenes and non-indigenes in the community have never relented in contributing their quota to Mosque development through communal self-help, so far the work has reached an advanced stage, we’re now working on the minerate, we intend to construct four minerates, we have raised two remains two, we also made provision for female worshippers, ablution side.

“When we get additional fund we would do PoP, painting, tiling, interlocking, electrical fittings, carpeting, for now we don’t have money to install air conditioners instead we will provide fans.”

He explained that “we still have a long way to go because we are yet to raise the outer wall, so far we have spent about N70 million naira, late Malam Adamu Ciroma alone donated N45 million naira before his death while the remaining amount came from different sons and daughters of the area.

“The developments we have witnessed so far in this mosque construction have been achieved through execution of quality project, we are executing the work through direct labour, we judiciously managed the little we have, the mosque downstairs would accommodate 1,500 worshippers while the upstairs 500 worshippers in addition to the sorrounding 1,000 worshippers can pray on it.”

He commended the donors over the donation which enabled the Committee to near the completion of the ancient mosque project, “according to the history of the Town, this mosque was the Islamic center for over 800 years”.

He urged the sons and daughters of the community to contribute generously toward the raising “a committee has been set up to source for fund from indigenous civil servants”.
