THE Federation of Muslim Women Association in Nigeria, FOMWAN, has called on governments at all levels to diligently prosecute all criminal cases to a logical conclusion, adding that the laws of Allah forbid criminal activities including economic crimes and Illegal acquisition of wealth.
FOMWAN gave the advice in a communique issued at the end of the 3-day conference, jointly signed by its National Amirah, Hajia Amina Omoti and National Secretary, Hajia Umaimoh Momoh.
FOMWAN commended the efforts of the Federal Government in the fight against corruption and therefore, calls on governments at all levels to diligently prosecute all criminal cases to a logical conclusion.
It continued: “The disunity in the country is brought about by too much allegiance to ethnic, religious issues. This is not acceptable in Islam as all human beings are regarded as creatures of God and should be treated with equity, fairness and justice.”
FOMWAN also noted that poverty, injustice and selfishness of people in positions of authority were responsible for the spate of insecurity, urging all Nigerians to stop discrimination on the basis of ethnicity and religion.
The foremost Muslim women group also noted that the family unit remains the bedrock of proper child upbringing; and as such urged parents and guardians to ensure proper Islamic upbringing was given to their children and wards.
On the issue of cultism, the group described it as one of the evils of the society, while also calling for strong collaborations between parents and all stakeholders in shaping the moral disposition of youths.
The Muslim women group lamented the discriminatory attitude against the use of Hijab, adding, “We affirm the need to allow our young girls/females professionals to dress in accordance with tenets of Islam. We also enjoin parents/guardians and teachers to serve as role models in proper dressing and in conformity with our culture and religious dictates.”
The Conference was attended by dignitaries from all over the country including the Executive Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola who represented President Muhammadu Buhari, at the occasion.
Other eminent personalities were Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule, Lagos State Deputy Governor, who also represented the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, Alhaji Lateef Okunnu, SAN, CON, Former Federal Commissioner for Works and Housing, Prof. Tajudeen Gbadamosi, Chairman, Lagos State Muslim Community, Provost, Ansar-ud-deen College of Education, Isolo, Lagos and Retired Hon. Justice Abubakar Olorunnibe, Oba Rilwan Aremu Akinolu was also represented at the ceremony.
