The Bauchi Chapter of Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN), says it has planted over 70 different species of trees in its primary and secondary schools across the state.
Hajiya Habiba Sa’ad, its Deputy Chairperson, said this in Bauchi on Tuesday .
Sa’ad said the exercise was to encourage tree planting by the younger generation.
She said that the trees would serve as wind breakers and shelter belts in the future.
“FOMWAN embarked on the exercise to encourage our youths to plant trees for them to serve as a beautification, shelter belts and wind breakers.
“Over 70 different species of trees were planted in six of FOMWAN schools across the state to contribute in controlling desertification and other natural disasters,” Sa’ad said.
She said that the association would continue to encourage activities that would improve the health of mothers and children in the state through health programmes.
