The Muslim Congress has said that restructuring of Nigerians was more important than that of the country.
The Ogun State Chapter of the TMC said this during a congress to evaluate the activities of the Islamic organisation in Ogun State.
While delivering his welcome address, the Wali of TMC in Ogun State, Ibrahim Ogunkoya, explained that insecurity and economic decline affected religious activities in the state.

I sincerely welcome you all to this 1438A.H. Congress of The Muslim Congress (TMC), Ogun State. Alhamdulillahi , It is now 42 months into the tenure of this current Executive Council and this is the last Congress for the Council, In Sha Allah. Today, we are gathered to again evaluate our activities in line with the provisions of our constitution. I hereby report to you that we have made appreciable but slow progress on our key performance indicators, in spite of the numerous and daunting challenges.
The last 12 months had witnessed serious security and economic decline in the country, which has slightly impacted negatively on our programmes and projects also in the State. The State’s decision to also devolve some programmes and projects to the Local Governments has also affected our performance. Details of these are as contained in subsequent pages of this report.
The year has not gone down without some areas of perennial but surmountable difficulties. In addition to those challenges that I had enumerated at the last Congress in Isonyin, it is still disturbing to report that the presence of our dawah activities in the grass-root and also among the elites in Ogun State is still far below expectation. The financial drive and commitment from most members has equally reduced drastically. As I speak, we have no functional secretariat; Zero presence in print and electronic media; our expansion strategy has not yielded the desired result due to poor implementation, and we are still scouting for more worthy patrons, amongst others.
To again address these anomalies and chat a practical way forward, we have chosen the topic “Managing the Human and Material Resources for Grassroots Development”, of which we are glad to have the pioneering and emeritus Wali of Ogun State, Barr. AbdulRafiu Adesina Baruwa, to discus. I humbly appeal to all to benefit from his wealth of knowledge, experience and exposure.
At this juncture, I wish to lend my voice to the current mantra of ‘restructuring’ in our polity. As ,we pray for the speedy recovery of Mr. President, We urge all parties to the issue of restructuring to exercise restraint by avoiding hate speech and violence that could plunge this nation into an irrecoverable religious or ethnic crisis. Restructuring for us Muslims should start first from the self-restructuring of Nigerians spiritually and morally, before any physical and structural restructuring of Nigeria can be successful. So, we recommend that we should considerably restructure Nigerians before restructuring Nigeria.
In Conclusion, I wish to thank the National headquarters of the Congress for her innumerable support to the State. I am not also forgetting all EC members for their cooperation and to our hardworking Wukalau and Ruqabau for their doggedness and patience; and to all TMC members in the State, I say to you all Jazakumullahu Khayran for giving us this opportunity to serve the Ummah of Mohammad (SAW).
