Incisive reportage of government policies, Laws and motions of lawmakers is crucial to sustainable development at all levels of governance.
Lagos State Commissioner For Home Affairs, Dr Abdulhakeem Abdullateef stated this at the second awards of Lagos House of Assembly Correspondent Association, LAHACA themed ‘Who Gets What’ at the Assembly Complex on Friday.
He noted that the media was key and strategic to transformation and societal development as an agent of change and watchdog of the Government.
This, the Commissioner said was the reason Lagos State government created conducive atmosphere for Journalists from different media to operate as an Association.
While urging the media to unite the country with their reportage, Dr Abdullateef noted that effective communication was the most fundamental aspect of governance.
“The power of the media cannot be over emphasized. As Journalists covering the most vibrant House of Assembly in Nigeria, you play eminent role in the development of our society. I am happy with the activities of LAHACA”
“As you continue to educate the public on the activities of the Lagos Assembly such as Bills, Laws and motions, please, do it meticulously with high sense of responsibility and fairness.
Earlier, In a welcome address, the Chairman of LAHACA, Prince Akinboye Akintola, who reports for Radio One thanked the Commissioner for his doggedness and explained that the programme was designed to motivate lawmakers and eminent Nigerians who have distinguished themselves in one way or the other with recognition and commendation awards.
