The Supreme council for Shari’a in Nigeria (SCSN) has urged Muslim clerics and worshippers to start special prayers for God’s intervention in tackling security challenges in the country.

The council gave the advice in a communiqué by its Secretary General, Mallam Nafiu Baba- Ahmad, at the end of the council’s Ramadan meeting in Kaduna at the weekend.

Baba-Ahmad said the five points communiqué raised concern on the current security situation in the country.

According to him, the security situation has reached an alarming stage in addition to the insecurity in the North Eastern states.

“Now states like Zamfara, Kaduna ,Katsina, Taraba and Benue have also been faced with various security challenges, ranging from Banditry and kidnapping.

“We are calling on our Imams and all the worshipers to begin special prayers (Qunut) to seek for God’s intervention to address the security challenge.

“We want government to brace up by reviewing its current security strategy and holding the security chiefs responsible for their action or inaction.

He further advised the Federal Government to engage leaders of Miyetti Allah group and listen to their complaints and pay compensation over losses of lives and cattle as well as the farmers.

The meeting was attended by about 80 Muslim leaders and professionals from 25 states, representing various Islamic organisations across the country.
