An Islamic sect, Jamaatul Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), Gombe State chapter, on Sunday organised a sensitisation workshop on quality leadership for candidates of political parties in the state.

Speaking during the occasion in Gombe, Prof. Rasheed Abdul-Ganiy, Head of Department, Islamic Studies, Gombe State University, called on the candidates to understand that leadership was a huge responsibility given by God.

He advised them to ensure Justice and accountability in discharging their responsibility if voted in to power, adding that they would account for their actions in the hereafter.

According to him, any person will account his did before God, hence the need for them to purify their intentions and do the right things for the people.

Also speaking, Dr. Sa’idu Dukawa of Bayero University, Kano, also called on the candidates to fear in the discharge of their duties if elected.

He stressed the need for consultation before embarking on projects to identify areas of need.

In his remarks, the Emir of Gombe, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu-Abubakar, represented by Alhaji Lamido Abubakar, urged the candidates to put into practice , what they gathered during the workshop to ensure hitch-free elections and good governance.

He commended JIBWIS for organizing the event, which he said was the first of its kind in the state.

Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, also commended the organization and called on other groups to to emulate JIBWIS.

Ibrahim, represented by Ibrahim Ali, Electoral Officer in charge of Gombe Local Government Area, called on all candidates to play the game of politics according to the rules.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the candidates who spoked at the occasion commended JIBWIS and called for more of such workshop after the elections to remind them of the right things to do.
