Fifty four graduands bagged First Class degree at the second convocation of the Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU), Katsina.
Speaking at the occasion, the Visitor and Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Masari, said his administration will continue to encourage the university to expand its horizon, so long as it continues to run its affairs in accordance with extant laws of the state.
He said accountability and probity must be ensured in the day to day management and utilisation of resources allocated to it.
He said recently, the government inaugurated a committee which was charged with the responsibility of setting up a teaching hospital, adding that will facilitate the establishment of a Faculty of Medical Sciences which in the long run will address the challenge of inadequate medical doctors in the state.
In his address, the Vice chancellor, Prof. Idris Funtua, said the university has an impressive record of sponsorship for study fellowship, workshops, seminar and conferences, resulting in the improvement of staff quality.
Meanwhile, business mogul, Dr. Umaru Mutallab, is now the new chancellor of the university. This followed his investiture at the convocation ceremony.
The new chancellor was also conferred with an honorary doctorate degree by the university.
