Malam Nurudeen Lemu, an Islamic Scholar says strategic reforms are needed in the education sector to carter for the teeming youths.
Lemu, who is also the Director, Islamic Education Trust (IET), Minna made the call on Saturday in Abuja at the 10th annual Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society Women’s Forum with the theme ” Managing Teen Years For Effective Nation Building”.
He stressed the need for a comprehensive and holistic review of the nation’s education sector to inculcate vocational and family values into the curriculum.
“We need to urgently introduce a more holistic educational system that will carter for all our 21st century needs, because the society is constant changing, ” he said.
The scholar decried the high rate of vices and criminality in the society today, especially among youths.
He traced most of the vices to poor parenting and education with a call on parents to do more in this regard.
Lemu emphasised that Islam as a way of life has spelt out the duties and obligations of a parent on his children in order to have an egalitarian society.
Earlier, the National Chief Imam of Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society, Imam Adeyemi Fuad said the forum was to celebrate and encourage the Islamic woman.
He said the theme of the programme was carefully chosen to assist mothers and teens alike to deal with the alarming rate of juvenile delinquency in the society.
Also speaking, Hajia Rekiya Momoh-Abaji, Chairperson, Planning committee for the Forum said that the forum will continue to enlighten, promote peace and development in the country.
The programme was attended by Islamic scholars, government functionaries and Muslims from all walks of life.
