A frontline Islamic Cleric and founder of Lutful-lahi International, Sheikh Robiu Adebayo has said there is no better time than now to review and amend the Nigerian constitution, saying that amendment remains the only way out of several Socio-economic challenges plaguing the country.

Sheikh Adebayo made this known during a press briefing on the state of the nation held at his residence, Oworonshoki, Lagos said: “All issues about stealing, corruption, kidnapping, killings, are allowed to fester on because lawyers employ technicalities of the law to defend and win such cases to the detriment of the country.

He stated that the Buhari-led administration would continue to parade looters of treasury but will not be able to convict them.

On the economy, the scholar said the harsh economic realities had been untreated ailment, a malaise that if no properly checked will spell doom for the country.

“This did not start under this administration, it is like an untreated ailment that will continue from bad to worse and if not treated will spell doom for this country.  That is why I said earlier that some aspects of our laws have to be amended to cater for both the primary cause of economic hardship.

“Our laws must be strengthened to permanently respond to issue of corruption, stealing, kidnapping, bombing, among others. The politicians should play politics with the intent of developing the people and not their personal interest. If we love the people, we will always work to improve their welfare. Review and constitutional amendment is long over due. Smaller countries usually respond to the dynamism of constitutional matters and they are addressing current situation appropriately.”

Responding to whether Boko Haram has infiltrated Lagos, the eminent scholar charged religious, traditional and local government leaders to closely monitor their subjects and the environment so as to fish out bad elements in their various areas.

He advised unemployed Nigerians to shun unavailable white collar job but learn arts, and skills that  will make them productive as well as contribute meaningfully to the economy.

He lauded former President Jonathan administration for throwing away the gay bill saying: “If Jonathan had succumbed to the pressure, what would we have done? It is a great thing that he threw the gay right bill away. We must be careful when we talk about human rights.  All what the Qur’an and the Bible reject must not find ways into our constitution,” he stated.

Lutful-lahi International is an amalgam of several prayer groups established by Sheikh Robiu Adebayo Abdul Malik for the purpose of spiritual development.
