Maryam Maina, a student of Gombe state university has won N100, 000 scholarship, thursday, 21st November, 2019 after defeating seven participants in senior category poetry competition during 6th annual Gombe day of literature and creativity.

The result was announced by a panel of judges immediately after assessing the results of all participants who presented their poems.

Maryam Maina was presented with a cheque of N100,000 scholarship, an automatic volunteer appointment with Halima Factor Community Initiative (HFCI) and other prizes.

Maina while answering questions from reporters after emerging victorious said “Emerging as a winner of the poetry prize contest is something I’ve always dreamed of. It’s a special kind of feeling I cannot put to words. It’s just so calming, so soothing. The peoples’ cheers as I emerged the winner, their melodious laughters as they hugged me, the contagious smile they held as they congratulated me is so overwhelming”

“It’s like winning wings to soar in the sky to sing to a song to every soul. The feeling is so Masha Allah and Alhamdulillah” she added.

The competition was organised by Halima Factor Community Initiative (HFCI) of Haj. Halima Usman in collaboration with Nigerian National Petroleum Commission (NNPC), National Orientation Agency (NOA), Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Gombe State University (GSU), Federel College of Education Technical (FCET) and Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
