Ogundipe is a Professor of Botany and also the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics & Research) at the University of Lagos.

He is a member of many scientific organisations. He is a Life member, International Society of Plant Morphologist, Fellow of Cohort 9 of the Leadership for Environment and Development, and the Linnaean Society, London. 

He is a reviewer for many scientific academic journals and external examiner to many universities including University of Johannesburg. 

He has been on the accreditation team to many universities in Nigeria and Ghana. He is Professorial Assessor to many universities including University of Ghana.
He has published over seventy (70) research articles in various high profile peer reviewed journals both locally and internationally and has co-authored seven (7) reviewed books. He is a three-time co-recipient of the University of Lagos, Faculty of Science Best Researcher Award.
He supervised or co-supervised fifteen (15) doctoral and several Master’s students.
Two (2) of his Ph.D. students have won the best Ph.D. Thesis Award on different occasions. Two (2) of his students were STEP-B Awardee for Ph.D. Project in 2010, and two (2) of his students have won National Conservation Foundation award (S.L Edu). He is currently supervising six (6) Ph.D. students.
He has received millions of naira for research projects from the British Council, University of Lagos, Agriculture Research Council, Tetfund and many other funding organizations.

He has attended and presented research papers at conferences in several countries. He was an Adjunct Professor to the Department of Biology, Central Michigan University, Michigan. He enjoyed Royal Society of London, Lennoix-Boyd Memorial Trust and Bentham-Moxon Trust sponsorship to Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, U.K. He has participated in several environmental consulting projects. 

The summary of his research is in communicating biodiversity knowledge to the world, and the application of pollen and spore evidence to understanding patterns of evolution.

He was born on 31st of May 1960. He is married and blessed with three children
