As commercial activities resume in the country, the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria has advised government at all levels to provide a conducive environment for businesses to grow.
The Amir (president) of the MSSN, Lagos State Area Unit, Saheed Ashafa, said this after the completion of a 10-day vacation course organised for about 5000 Muslim youths in Lagos State.
During the training, the youths were drilled on entrepreneurship and development of employability traits.
To make the training beneficial to both the trainee and the nation, Ashafa appealed to government to assist youths who are willing to own businesses.
He suggested that government should consider making and implementing policies that would be favourable for small scale businesses.
Ashafa also called the attention of government to the inadequate efforts paid to teaching of entrepreneurial courses in schools.
He urged non-governmental and private organisations to assist the government in reducing unemployment in the nation.
This, he said, could be achieved through self discovery and entrepreneurial-oriented trainings.
He said, “As an organisation, we have identified that there is a gap between the entrepreneurial skills possessed by youths and their ability to transform the skills to societal development. This resulted to our inclusion of entrepreneurship diets into our programmes in the last vacation course camp.
“We hope that government will take up the responsibility of ensuring convenience of youths with high morale to invest in the country. Specifically, we call on government to quickly engage an entrepreneurial based curriculum if we are really determined to address unemployment and poverty among Nigerians.”
While appreciating the delegates that attended the vacation course, Ashafa challenged them to ensure proper application of what they have learnt.
According to him, the beneficiaries must take responsibility of reviving the country’s economy.
“Attending the training is appreciated but not enough. Our joy will be to see some of the beneficiaries of our training course unlock the economic challenge in the country within the shortest period,” he added.
