The Salafiyyah Group, a faction of the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has appealed for forgiveness from the University’s Chief Imam and Muslim Community.

It would be recalled that the group had earlier rejected to be associated with the MSSN at the national level and shun some instructions by the Imam, Muslim Community and OAU management.

It has also in several occasions tagged the Chief Imam with abusive terms among which was accusing him of behaving like a “disbeliever”.

There have also been occasions that the group refuted contents of the sermon of the Chief Imam in hall of residence mosques previously controlled by them.

The peak of the group members crisis with the Chief Imam was a pandemonium caused during the swearing in of MSSN executives recognised by the University authorities and national body.

During the swearing in, a video showing that the Chief Imam was pushed to the ground surfaced.

Members of the Salafiyyah group had earlier told the National MSSN Amir, Jameel Muhammad, in public that they don’t believe in MSSN bye-law.
