A COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE 2ND CONFERENCE OF HIGHER INSTITUTION MUSLIM STUDENT’S UMARAH (COHIMSU) HELD AT KANO UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY WUDIL, KANO STATE, BETWEEN 25TH AND 28TH JUMADAL AKHIRAH, 1438 A.H (AN EQUIVALENT OF 23RD – 26TH MARCH, 2017)
INTRODUCTION 

The Conference of Higher Institutions Muslim Students Umarah (COHIMSU) is a programme usually organized by the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN): A-Zone (Northern States & Abuja) aimed at interacting with principal officers of Higher Institutions on challenges confronting their activities at campuses. The theme of this year’s COHIMSU was “Understanding the MSSN Struggle: A Historic-Analytical Account”. The event was attended by 182 participants from 84 Higher Institutions and 18 Area Units across the 19 Northern States & Abuja. The highlights of the programme included among others; lectures on understanding the MSSN struggle: a historic-analytical account; presentation addressing the challenges facing MSSN at Higher Institutions in the light of the society’s objectives and another presentation on Influencing social change: a strategic approach. Among other activities were familiarizations, team presentation, ta’alimat, unveiling the new faces of MAGACO and communiqué. 
Among the dignitaries who grace the programme were Mallam Ibrahim Ado Kurawa, former Special Adviser to the former Minister of Education (Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau); Former MSSN National Ameer, Mallam Abdullahi Abubakar Lamido; the MSSN National Ameer, Mallam Muhammad Jameel Muhammad; the MSSN National Secretary, Mallam Auwal Yunus; Mallam Tahir Umar Tahir, former Senior Special Adviser on Islamic Affairs & State House Imam to the former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan; and State Presidents of MSSN in the 19 Northern State & Abuja; among others. 
RESOLUTIONS:

After series of presentations, discussions and deliberations, the following recommendations and resolutions were made:

The society directs that the transition of Higher Institutions should take place early in second semester for proper coordination from their predecessors and the Area Units to frequently organize Leadership Training for the new executives

The Higher Institutions should include “MSSN” to the names of the Faculty Based Islamic Associations

The Higher Institutions should have an official phone number, official mail address and official media accounts which should be send to the Zone through their Area Units

The Higher Institutions should constantly pay courtesy visit to school management and to maintain close rapport with them

Programmes of the Higher Institutions and other levels of the society should be fashioned in achieving the aims and objectives of the society 

The Society appreciates and supports the present administration’s on-going fight against corruption. However, it calls on the government to device means of bringing possible solutions to the suffering of the masses over the sky-rocketing of prices of foods. 

The Society calls for support and prayers for President Muhammadu Buhari for Allah’s guidance and strength in his leadership position.

The Society calls on Kaduna State Government to investigate and bring to book whosoever was behind the ungodly act of damaging one of its member’s eye, Sister Raliya Sulaiman of Government Junior Secondary School, Kachia, Kaduna State

The Society calls the full attention of Higher Institutions’ authorities to implement and enforce proper dress code and descent dressing to preserve our moral values

CONCLUSION:

We are appreciate the effort of all those who contributed towards the success of the COHIMSU programme; we pray to Almighty Allah to reward you all in this world and hereafter.
