The Muslim Student Society of Nigeria Lagos Unit host Dr Balikis Mabadeje-Isowo for her Ummahaat Day on Sunday 22nd January, 2023 to talk about breast cancer.

Breast cancer is a disease in which cells in the breast grow out of control and it can happen to both men and women.

According to Dr Balikis Mabadeje-Isowo she explained that breast cancer can happen to anyone irrespective of colour but when found in a black person, it tends to be more aggressive and dangerous.

Furthermore, she said “All body parts are prone to cancer except the head and teeth” therefore we should keep tabs with changes in our bodies.

According to her cancer causes can be early menstruation, genetic, history of cancer, someone that is yet to give birth, alcohol and obesity and so much more.

The doctor also explained sometimes cancer don’t give symptoms but most common symptoms attached to it are lumps in the breast, change of shape in the breast (not due to menstruation or ovulation), persistent headache and so on.

According to her, she also said early detection can go a long way in saving the life of a patient and some of the prevention of cancer are advocacy, awareness, screening, coinical breast examination, breastfeeding and so on.
