The Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fathi Society (NASFAT) on Sunday empowered several women and physically challenged with items and tools worth over one N1million in Lagos State.
The programme, organised by NASFAT, Ipaja Branch, also featured the inauguration of a block of six classrooms to propagate good morals through western and Islamic education.
The NASFAT’s Chief Missioner (Worldwide), Alhaji Maroofden Onike, who inaugurated the classrooms, said that the society was committed to the spiritual well being and welfare of the people, especially its members.
“By this, we have contributed to the social services in Lagos State.
“We are not only an Islamic organisation, our mission statement is to develop an enlightened Muslim society, nurtured by true understanding of Islam for spiritual development and welfare of mankind.
”Part of our goal is to uplift the people financially and improve the livelihood of people. We have disbursed over N130 million in the last four or five years.
“We should alleviate the suffering of people who are financially in need, no matter the religious inclination,’’ he said.
Onike said that the society had directed all its branches to have at least a primary school, and zones to have at least a secondary school, while the headquarters to have a university.
According to him, education and empowerment are part of the mission and vision of NASFAT.
Alhaji Monsurudeen Oloko, the Chairman, NASFAT, Ipaja Branch said that the empowerment was to further cushion the effect of the economic hardship faced by the people.
Oloko said: “We empower some of our members that need help to upgrade their businesses and trades.
“It is expected we contribute our quota in assisting the people to lead good lives.
“We gave items worth over N1 million to help our members and we also erected a block of six classrooms to aid the education of our children.
“We will continue to support the government in the provision of good education for children and empowerment of the people to be happy.’’
He said that the Nasrul-Lahil-Faithi Nursery and Primary School, Ipaja Branch would begin operation by September.
Alhaja Mariam Adisa, one of the beneficiaries of the empowerment, commended NASFAT for boosting her trade with items such as charcoal, bags of rice and finance.
Alhaja Ganiyat Taofeek, a widow who deals in building materials, also expressed appreciation for the provision of items to stock her shops.
According to her, the head pans, roller brush, ordinary brush, electrons and other items given to her will take her business to the next level.
“I have four children, and with this gesture, I will be able to feed my children. I am grateful to NASFAT. It will go a long way to establish me,’’ Taofeek said.
Also, Mrs Sherifat Badmus, a hairdresser said: “this will bring a change in my life and family. I thank God for this.’’
Badmus, a single mother of three who said her husband had deserted her for 12 years, said her livelihood would improve with the gesture.
The branch presented awards to members that had contributed to its advancement.
