The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Lagos State Area Unit has urged Nigerians to continue to be tolerant of one another regardless of their socio-cultural and religious diversity.

In a special Independence message, the Amir of the group, Dr. Saheed Ashafa, noted that tolerance was key to sustaining peaceful coexistence of the different parts on the country.

He said Nigerians should be full of praises to Allah for keeping the country together despite series of turbulent occasions in the past years.

He urged government at all levels to be faithful with the populace by upholding the oaths they swore to before coming into the various offices they occupy.

Ashafa stated that “politicians and government functionaries should use this period to assess and and evaluate their administration and expedite actions to deliver more dividends of democracy to the people”.

He said “government is supposed to be an enabler for sustainable developments”, adding that more efforts should be put in place to strengthen institutions of government.

On the suspended strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), he urged Federal Government to “redeem its pledge with ASUU and other labour unions in order not to cripple the fortune of students and other services across the nation in a shortwhile”.

Ashafa urged Buhari-led government to invest hugely on education as government considers implementing its diversification policy. 

The MSSN Lagos leader also called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts in its resolve to combat the menace of insurgency to finish in the country.

Ashafa called for an increased operational capability of men of the Nigeria Armed Forces and every other security agencies in the fight against Boko Haram.

He asked government to expedite actions to ensure the release of the rest of Chibok girls and other innocent people held captive by  Boko Haram.
