NIGERIANS, irrespective of faith, have been called upon to pray for God’s grace and intervention in the forthcoming general election.
The spiritual head (Amir) of As-Salam Praying Centre, Nigeria, Sheikh Abdur-Rahman Adegboyega-Lawal, made the call last week after a special prayer session by As-Salam Praying Centre held at Abdur-Rahman Lawal Central Mosque, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Sheikh Adegboyega-Lawal, who is also the National President of Islamic Progressives Association of Nigeria (IPAN), underscored the need to rescue the country from untoward events as the elections draw near, saying “we need to pray more and do the right things always.”
According to him, the socio-political and economic problems threatening the country are not beyond prayer and so Nigerians need to call on Allah for solutions and demonstrate their faith in Him.
“We must take our destiny in our own hands as our challenges are by-products of bad governance, of misrule, of impunity. All religions preach the attainment of sterling human qualities such as honesty, probity, integrity and transparency but we are lacking in all these and for a way out, we need to put them in practice,” Sheikh Adegboyega-Lawal said.
The cleric noted that today’s world required sustained prayers and supplications to Allah to overcome the multifarious challenges and harmonise different political currents with a view to enabling growth and development.
