It was excitement overflow as former President of University of Lagos (UNILAG) Students’ Union (ULSU), Abdur Rafiu Martins Abiodun tied the knot in a colourful marriage solemnization held in the city of Ife on Saturday.
Abdur Rafiu, a graduate of Technical Education, Faculty of Education, UNILAG married Hameedah Opeloye, a law graduate of  OAU.

The wedding held at Gity Events Center beside the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) main campus.

IWitness NG reports that the wedding was tagged “Abby&Ammy17.”

The bride, full of alluring smiles, was clad  in a plain navy blue bridal gown wearing a cool golden hijab.

The groom wore a golden colour traditional Guinea brocade with a to-match purple cap.

The Aqdun Nikah (holy solemnisation) proceeding commenced with a recitation from the Glorious Qur’an by some young male children while the Chief Imam of UNIlAG Central Mosque, Prof M A Bidmus said the opening prayer.

While delivering the nikah sermon, the officiating Imam Alhaji Abdul Samih Abdul Alim announced that to the congregation that the bride price otherwise known as “Mahr,” requested by the bride was a copy of Qur’an.

He noted that marriage was a contractual agreement binding in Islam by the fundamental laws of the Qur’an.

He added, “Many people do marry for different reasons but, the best motivation for marriage is to marry because of Allah.”

He admonished the couple to be mindful of their responsibilities to each other and live together with love, mercy and peace.

The cleric advised them to establish their marriage on the pristine Islamic foundation, effective communication and understanding.

Meanwhile, after the nikah solemnization, the reception followed immediately in the hall within the premises.

The wedding ceremony also witnessed a martial art display by a  group of Taekwando team, who thrilled the audience to excitement with different Taekwando stunts.

In his appreciation remark, the groom thanked Almighty Allah, his family and friends for making the marriage a success as he said the wedding signified a memorable time and a new chapter he would document about his life.

Abdur Rafiu had served as USLU president, 2014/2015 academic session during the leadership of  Prof. Ramon Bello as the Vice Chancellor of UNILAG.

The bride is a daughter of Professor  Muib Opeloye of Department of Religious Studies, OAU.
The wedding was attended by the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, Executive Secretary, Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN), Prof. Daud Noibi, UNILAG Chief Imam, Prof. M A Bidmus among other dignitaries.
