Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, the Secretary-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, has called on political leaders to always govern with the fear of God.
Oloyede, who is also the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB), made the call on Sunday in Osogbo at a Ramadan lecture organised to mark the 62nd birthday of a former governor of Osun, Rauf Aregbesola.
The lecture, which was organised by an organisation, Enroute Rauf Team, had as theme: “Leadership and Followership in Nigeria: The Islamic Perspective.”
Oloyede, who quoted from Quran 4 vs 58 , said leaders who did not put God first would always want to satisfy their appetite for wealth rather satisfying the desire of the populace.
He said: ” Since 1960, we have had Jackals who do everything to destabilise the society, clueless leaders who bring in changes to disturb societal progress.
” Philosopher kings who know what to do but do not recourse to God while the fourth category are the true leaders who have the fear of God in their dealings
“As leaders, you should be very careful.
“You will have psycophats, opportunists, spectators and conspirators around you.
“They are there to mislead you, you should be very careful and be dutiful enough not to identify them and deal with them properly.”
Oloyode also called on followers to always support their leaders.
” We have some followers who wants the best for their leadership by supporting them and praying for them without any conspiracy, ” he said.
In his lecture, Sheik Yusuf Ayeniromo urged Muslims to be calm and remain pious.
He emphasised the importance of doing good deeds and ensuring that they avoid all acts that could invalidate their Ramadan fast.
The Chief Imam of Offa, Sheik Muydeen Salman, advised Muslims and Nigerians to refrain from partiality and disobedience to Allah’s instructions.
In his remarks, Aregbesola appreciated the people for their support and love.
Aregbesola, who also dispelled rumours of a frosty relationship between him and incumbent Gov. Gboyega Oyetola, urged the people to disregard such speculations.
