The new Vice Chancellor of Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State, Prof Dayo Alao, has said that the only possible solution to end the economic recession battling the country was to engage fully in agriculture.

The VC disclosed this during a press briefing in Osogbo the capital of Osun, saying that the country’s departure from agriculture to crude oil was cause of the economic recession.

Prof  Alao lamented that it was unfortunate that Nigeria has forgotten the benefits of groundnut pyramid in the North, cocoa in the West, palm oil in East but concentrated solely on crude.

He said that poor people were angry in the country and that has led to the increase in armed robbery, kidnapping. 

He then said that if Nigeria did not defend solely on crude oil, the economic recession would not affect the country to this extent.

He said further that flamboyant life that many rich people were living also impacted on economy of the country negatively, urging that rich people should focus more on investment that would pave way for employment opportunity in the country.

The VC said that federal government should mandate all local government in the country to focus on farming and employ youths through it.

He added that entrepreneurship would also have positive impact on the economy.
