The General Authority for Statistics has announced a decline of about 4.6 per cent (89,908 pilgrims), compared to the number of pilgrims last year (1436 AH), whose number accounted for 1,952,817 pilgrims.
The Hajj authority said that the total number of pilgrims for this year’s Hajj (1437 AH) reached 1,862,909 pilgrims,
In its results of the statistics for this year’s Hajj issued on Sunday (Dhul Hijjah 9), the authority stated that the number of pilgrims coming from outside Saudi Arabia stood at 1,325,372 pilgrims, while the total number of pilgrims from within the Kingdom reached 537,537 pilgrims, the vast majority of them are non-Saudi residents, of them 207,425 pilgrims came to Makkah from the rest of the Saudi cities, in addition to 330,112 pilgrims from inside Makkah.
It pointed out that the total number of non-Saudi pilgrims amounted to 1,692,417, while the total Saudi pilgrims numbered 170,492 pilgrims.
The General Authority explained that the total number of male pilgrims for this year’s Hajj reached 1,082,228 pilgrims, while the total number of female pilgrims stood at 780,68.
The statistics suggested that 35.5 per cent of pilgrims from within Saudi Arabia arrived in the holy sites via Jeddah-Makkah Highway, 28.5 per cent via Al-Sail-Makkah Road and 21 per cent through Madinah-Makkah Highway, while 15 per cent arrived via three other main roads; South Makkah Coastal Highway, Taif-Makkah Road and Old Jeddah-Makkah Road.
The General Authority for Statistics showed that the last three days of Dhu al-Hijjah 7, 8 and 9, has seen an influx of 80 percent of the total number of domestic pilgrims to Makkah.
With regard to the total number of vehicles carrying domestic pilgrims to Makkah, it has accounted for 29,169 cars.
