Muslims around the world are expected to celebrate Eid-ul Adha on September 12, the High Judiciary Council of Saudi Arabia has reportedly said.

The position of the council was contained in a report by Fatwa Online.

According to the post, 1 Dhul-Hijjah will be on Saturday 3rd September 2016, and the Muslims performing Hajj will be in ‘Arafah on Sunday 11th September 2016 (9th Dhul-Hijjah 1437).

Earlier, the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia had called on all Muslims in the Kingdom to sight the crescent of the month of Dhul Hijjah on Thursday evening (Dhul Qada 29 — Sept. 1)

The sighting of the crescent should be reported to the nearest court, the Supreme Court said on Wednesday, August 31.

However, efforts to confirm the authenticity of the official position of the court proved abortive from members of the judicial council.

A prominent journalist in the Kingdom told the iWitness NG at 08.30pm on Thursday that “No official press statement yet. I have been trying to reach them too. The court asked for crescent search but has not made any announcement yet.”
