Sudan International University has entered into agreement with Zamfara Government to open a faculty of Medical Sciences in Gusau, the state capital.
A statement signed by Yusuf Idris, the Press Affairs Director-General to the state governor, said the agreement was reached between Gov. Bello Matawalle and Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Bakri Osman Saeed on Tuesday in Gusau.
It however said that the formal signing of the agreement would be done after the Eid-el-Kabir festival.
The statement said the faculty will offer admission to indigenes of the state wishing to pursue courses in medical science.
It quoted Matawalle as saying that the effort would boost access to educational opportunities for people in the state.
“The decision to give much priority to the education sector by this administration is to meet the national and international indices of development.
“No meaningful development is achievable without sound education.
“Zamfara State Government will provide the land while the university will construct all the required structures for academic and non academic purposes.”
It disclosed that the university had earlier offered reasonable number of admission slots to the state indigenes at its permanent site in Sudan.
It added that the government planned to produce at least 3000 medical doctors and health professionals before the end of the governor’s tenure.
The statement said that Saeed, the Vice Chancellor, told the governor that they were in Zamfara to congratulate him on his victory and build strategic partnership with the state government in the area of education.
It also said Saeed had assured the governor, that the proposed Medical Sciences faculty would offer vast opportunities to students and boost teaching and learning of medical sciences in the state.
He announced a discount in registration fees to students from Zamfara currently studying in the University in Sudan.
