The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, on Tuesday, urged Muslims to start looking for the new moon of Muharram 1439AH.

The call is in a statement sign by Prof. Sambo Junaidu, the Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto.

He stated that “this is to inform the Muslim Ummah that Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, which is equivalent to 29 days of Zulhajji 1438AH shall be the day to look for the new moon of Muharram 1439AH.

“Muslims are, therefore, requested to start looking for the new moon of Muharram 1439AH on Wednesday and report its sighting to the nearest district or village head for onward communication to the Sultan.”

The monarch prayed for peace and unity in the country and urged Muslims to fervently pray for sustainable development and growth.
