I observed my Solaatul Dhuhr in a mosque in Mushin (the same Mushin) on Sunday. During the teslim (popularly called salamo) turning left, my eyes saw a part of the wall painted black with white inscriptions depicting their monthly contribution, it is then I saw the name of the mosque to be “Fiwakesin Mosque” which can mean “Add good character to your religion” in English.
Without much contemplation, I ended my solaat peacefully and I sat down gently on my buttocks and I checked again while chanting my adhkaar.
Is this not an insult to the religion itself? What is good character? What is Islam? What is the message of Islam if not good character? Separating character and Islam is like taking a fish out of water. Character and Islam without doubt work pari-pasu.
The prophet of Islam (SAW) brought the message of Islam with nothing but good characters. The old woman who detested hearing the message of Islam, taking her leave out of the vicinity of making just to run away from the message ended up embracing Islam because of the unique disposition and character the messenger displayed.
Allah explicitly said in Quran 33 verse 21 that “Indeed in the Messenger of Allah (Muhammad SAW) you have a good example to follow for him who hopes in (the Meeting with) Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah much.”
And the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) says:
“I was sent to perfect the noble qualities of character.” (Reported by Ahmad)
Good manner therefore is inevitable in Islam, not only to Muslims but to all and sundry.
To make a solid point, the second leader of the Muslims after the demise of the prophet, Umar ibn Khattab said “Let everyone of you call to Islam with your character than words”
It is therefore paramount and vital that we all know the essence of our Islam is to portray distinguish good characters towards others.
Our Religion has that good character already, no need to add it again. Fiwakesin therefore stands to be an insult to our religion.
