Dear Hajj returnees,

May Allah accept your ibādah and grant you steadfastness. Please, note that it is a meritorious act to host people to a feast to show appreciation to Allāh. Such is allowed. However, you should avoid the following things:

* Extravagant spending: Islām advocates moderation in all things.

* Show off: It May amount to show off if uniform clothes are chosen for the occasion (as in aso ebi) and (some) people have to go through the stress of purchasing it.

* Waste: Provision of food and other items should be proportional to the number of guests expected to avoid waste.

* Music: Invitation of musicians to entertain people is harām and will turn such gathering into a harām gathering.

* Unislamic attires: Men and women wearing clothes that violate the dress code of the Sharī’ah is highly frowned at. Every attendee must be admonished to be properly dressed in a manner permitted by the Sharī’ah.

* Free mixing of opposite gender: The sitting arrangement must be such that separates men and women, except where a particular chooses to sit together since they are ذووا محارم.

* Promiscuity: Catering service must be handled professionally. Males should be in charge of the men and females should be in charge if the women. Promiscuity begins when young ladies are moving round men and shameless men begin to pass vulgar comments and making advances at them.

* Spiritual charlatans: Avoid inviting those yahoo yahoo alfas to your gathering, for they will only come to sell shirk, bid’ah, lies and cajole people in order to take their money.
