TMC Lagos Holds Annual Week-Long Programme

The Muslim Congress, Lagos State Chapter has announced it is holding the year 2020 edition of its Annual Week programme, tagged TMC (Lagos) Annual State Week (TASW) beginning Friday 25th September 2020 through Sunday 4th October 2020 as the organization continues in its drive for renewed action and wholesome re-awakening on matters bordering on socio-economic well-being through its various advocacy programmes.

TMC (Lagos) Annual State Week (TASW) is an all week civic engagement program designed to address public concerns with a view to mobilizing the grassroots and the political elite for a charge towards socio-political renewal. By design, the week-long events is headlined by an independence lecture preceded by other activities such as media visits, free medical and humanitarian support services among other mass mobilizing programs.

However, in the face of the prevailing circumstances, the 2020 edition of TASW will be reimagined to have global audience appeal as the programs lined up are, largely, to be undertaken online as virtual events using the popular cloud-based video conferencing platform, Zoom. The events which kicks off with Special Jumat services across major Central Mosques in Lagos including Lagos Central Mosque, Lagos Island and TMC Dawah Centre, Ijesha, on Friday, 25th September will round off to a spiritual climax on Sunday 4th with Special Prayers for The Nation @60, following which a Health Seminar on pandemic survival strategies is scheduled to hold with Dr. Sheu Tunji Akintade, Chairman/CEO HAMMAAB Hospital, Ikorodu, same day.

The top of the bill event, the Annual (Independence) Lecture, will have the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr (Engr) Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, as the Special Guest of Honour as other leading personalities such as the Ranodu of Imota, Oba Mudashiru Ajibade Bakare Agoro, the Chief Imam of Lagos, Sheikh (Engr) Sulaiman Abou-Nolla are all billed to be in attendance among other dignitaries.

Speaking at the event, with the theme Balancing Between Atheism & Science In A World Ravaged by Pandemic Diseases, are the Acting Director, Centre for Islamic Affairs of the Nigerian Navy, Lagos, Navy Commander Taofiq Miqdad Gidado and the Pro Vice Chancellor & Dean College of Business Law & Social Sciences, University of Derby, United Kingdom, Professor Kamil Omotesho.

Ahead of the 5-Day events, the Chairman, TASW 2020 Organizing Committee, Alhaji Kofoworola Yekini, revealed that part of the efforts to mark this year’s Annual week program is the humanitarian support service aimed at bringing succour to the vulnerable members of the society as he informed that plans have been concluded to share relief packages among school teachers who are most affected by the COVID-19 enforced lockdown.

Corroborating the Committee Chair, the Waali (head), TMC Lagos, Alhaji Mikail Animashaun, disclosed that a delegation will also be paying humanitarian visit to the Kirikiri Medium Prisons with items of necessities as they share moments with some of the inmates.
