79 students win scholarships at UNIFEMGA reunion conference

Obafemi Awolowo University Muslim Graduates’ Association, UNIFEMGA held their annual national reunion conference today May 5, 2018 at Oduduwa Hall, OAU Ile Ife.


The program which is part of a 3-day event commenced around 10:00 am.

The guest speaker for this year’s reunion, Hon. Abike Dabiri Erewa, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign affairs and Diaspora, an alumnus of the institution presented the topic “Leveraging the diaspora: Opportunities for the Nigerian Muslim Ummah”.

The Chief Imam of OAU Muslim Community, Prof. Sanusi Abefe, who spoke after her presentation challenged the Federal Government to not only approve funds for tertiary institutions, they should also ask how they spent the funds.

The National President of UNIFEMGA, Alhaji AbdulWaheed Odeyimka, made it known during his welcome address that the association is very happy to witness the unity of Muslim students in the University.

“For the first time in several years, new Muslim students are being welcomed to OAU campus by a single stand managed by the MSSN,” he said.

The National President also revealed the amount money spent on the scholarships, saying, “Last year, we disbursed the sum of 4, 700, 000.00 to 83 scholars which was our largest award ever since we started this scholarship program. This year In Sha Allah, we would be disbursing the sum of 4, 540, 000.00 to 79 scholars.”

Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, the Vice Chancellor of the University, in his goodwill message appreciated UNIFEMGA for their yearly scholarship to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

He was also full of praise for the University highlighting that he is yet to visit a University with better structures than OAU.

“I want to thank you in particular for your vision to commence the hostel project years before now, it is ironical that UNIFEMGA have commenced such a project several years back while we are just trying to ensure decent accommodation for our students,” he added.

Obafemi Awolowo University just commenced the 2017/2018 session with arrival of the freshmen on April 30, 2018.
