Students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) early Wednesday embarked on a peaceful protest over the suspension of some of their union leaders.
It would be recalled that some UNILAG Students’ Union leaders were suspended over activities relating to protest against bad infrastructures and facilities on the university campus.
It was learnt that the ongoing protest was to call the attention of members of senate of the university to the alleged victimisation of the union leaders.
The coordinators of the protest earlier sent a social media message which read, “Greatest Akokites! Tomorrow (Wednesday 31st August, 2016) is the first meeting of the newly constituted University of Lagos Senate, it is also the day for the Drug Free Campaign event.
“It is time to rise up for our rusticated Union (ULSU) leaders who are being punished because of the Protest that we all staged in April concerning our welfare on campus.
“The rusticated students and student leaders will be at the Senate building with placards by 9am tomorrow morning to express our displeasure on the decisions of the University Senate and the Student Affairs Divisions.
“We implore all well meaning and concerned students to join us with their placards. This is going to be peaceful, we may not say a word, just the message on our placards will speak for us.l”
