Some prominent Muslim leaders have instructed their followers to que behind Kayode Fayemi in the Saturday election in Ekiti State.
They said this is to pay Governor Ayodele Fayose back for allegedly deceiving them.
Here is a broadcast message shared by some top Islamic scholars:
“Fayose and His Plethora of Fraud
“One thing we should all detest and speak against is lie. Fayose single-handedly picked Professor Kolapo, a Christian, as the gubernatorial candidate of PDP in Ekiti State. I see nothing bad in that; it is still our own version of democracy.
“However, to convince the Ekiti Muslims that the State will not be biased against any religion, Fayose ostensibly presented one ‘Alhaji Kazeem’ Deji Ogunsakin, as the deputy governor, to the leadership of the Muslim community in Ekiti State.
“Unsuspecting Muslims in the State thundered in jubilation. At least, at all at all na hin bad pass. A Christian governor and a Muslim deputy governor is a welcome idea. They assured the Governor of their unflinching support.
“Now, few days to the election, news filtered in that the so-called Kazeem is not a Muslim. Deji Ogunsakin is an active member of the Redeemed Christian Church. He is a conscious Christian.
“Does Fayose know this? Yes, he knows. He cannot deny it. Before picking him, he consulted the leadership of the Church. Ogunsakin was presented as their anointed candidate.
“I may not really have much issue against a party picking a Christian-Christian or Muslim-Muslim ticket. It all depends on the residents of that state to vote for the candidates of their choice.
“Nevertheless, where the problem lies is Fayose’s deceit and fraud. Fayose knows deep down himself that the person he was presenting to Ekiti Muslims is a Christian, and he went ahead in this shameful and ignoble act.
“Well, Ogunsakin’s Church, for the sake of clarity and avoidance of doubt, has forwarded a letter to Fayose; reminding him that the man he consulted them to present as the deputy governor is a Christian.
“Ekiti people can vote for whom they like. After all, Kayode Fayemi also picked a Christian, Chief Adebisi Egbeyemi, as his running mate without deceiving his people.”
