An international symposium to recap the role played by the Sokoto Caliphate in framing the building block for British colonial rule is to flag off the ten-year activities marking the ascent of Alhaji Saad Abubakar as Sultan of Sokoto on November 3.
The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II, disclosed this at a press conference in Kano while unveiling plans for the 10th year anniversary of the accession of the Sultan to the throne.
Besides the symposium, a durbar will also be held as part of the commemoration of the installation of Northern Nigeria’s most eminent monarch and the spiritual leader of the country’s Muslims.
Emir Sanusi said the anniversary is being planned by a committee led by himself with some leading traditional rulers from the North including the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar; Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammad Mera; Emir of Kazaure, Alhaji Najib Hussein Adamu; Emir of Fika, Alhaji Muhammadu Abali.
Other members include Hon. Manir Mohammed Dan’iya, Alhaji Attahiru Galandanchi, Galadiman Garin Sokoto, Alhaji Danladi Bako—Kogunan Sokoto, Dr Usman Bugaje among others.
