A PRESS STATEMENT FROM THE MUSLIM STUDENTS’ SOCIETY OF NIGERIA, NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS, ON THE CONTINUOUS SILENCE OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ON THE ABDUCTED GIRLS OF GOVERNMENT GIRLS’ SCIENCE AND TECHNICAL SCHOOL DAPCHI,YOBE STATE

We live in a nation where Education is treated with contempt and lack of concern and venturing into search for which is at one’s own peril. Not only that there is no favourable atmosphere for teaching and learning, neither are there qualified and well motivated teachers nor do they have facilities but even the security is compromised.

The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN) is shocked to its bone marrow that it is now a week since one hundred and five girls of the Government Girls’ Science and Technical School, Dapchi, Yobe State, according to the final list released, were abducted by unknown gunmen with not even one of them recovered from their abductors. The most astonishing part is the manner with which our security agencies carry out their operations despite the existence of technological sophistication typical of current time but could not trace the girls until now. This casts a lot of doubts in the mind over the professionalism or the sincerity of the security operatives in this country.

It is worth remembering quickly that, in April 2014, exactly a year to the 2015 general elections, over 200 Chibok girls were abducted and the issue was politicised and used as a tool for campaigning and decampaigning. That this abduction has happened when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had fixed February 2019 for the next general elections, exactly in the next one year, gives some political interpretations to security handling in Nigeria. We, as students are becoming worried if our security is made to take such dimensions. If by any means this incidence is connected with politics, we call on the politicians to have a rethink and desist from playing politics with peoples lives. Nobody’s ambition is worth the life of a single Nigerian.

As a traumatised people by this affliction, we are in fervent prayers that Allah saves the girls, returns them to us hale and hearty and comforts their parents. We call on all to engage in prayers and give useful information to the security agents.
